All the markets (Fruit and Vegetable, Fish, Flower, Poultry and Rabbit and Meat) managed by SO.GE.M.I. S.p.A. are situated in bordering equipped areas, thus forming one large integrated centre of wholesale distribution.

The SO.GE.M.I. markets have an essential task:

- the correct establishing of wholesale prices;

- the enhancing of local produce and products;

- the fight against the rising cost of living thanks to the opening of the markets themselves to the Public;

- improvement of the quality of products;

- the safeguarding of dietary safety for the Public;

- activities of internationalization and concerning the importing of products from all over the world;

- the development of the exporting of Italian products of quality within and outside the EU.

The Company is committed to the development of innovative programmes whose aim is the growing out of the Markets’ traditional food role and which aim at fostering the creating of a multifunctional centre of integrated services in the agricultural and food sector by means of the establishing of innovative structures capable of coming up with answers for new users and for organized distribution, as well as for the establishing of technologically equipped areas devoted to the preserving, the processing and the transforming of products.

More specifically, there is the intention to adapt the organization and the operational structures of the Wholesale Markets according to the new commercial needs of the sector and to effective distribution, with the aim of guaranteeing the quality and the safety of the products, expanding the range of marketed products and introducing complementary activities aimed at the enhancing and at the marketing of quality local and regional products, didactic and standing training activities for the market operators and for the consumers, innovative areas directed towards the awareness of taste and dietary information.

Coming within the overall development plan are also the accomplishment – together with important institutional bodies – of “The City of Taste and Health – Milan Food Village”, that is to say an outstanding centre concerning the agricultural and food sector, health and the environment, complementary and accessory services of the Markets, as well as other projects such as the accomplishment of an outstanding centre for the art of wine-making “Milan Wine Village”.
