The Wholesale Fish Market of Milan is one of the most modern ones at a European level and is the most important one for fish products in Freshly caught and from fish farms, frozen/deep-frozen, preserved, processed, dried/salted/smoked: the Wholesale Market of Milan guarantees an availability of a wide range of fish products, the broadest typology of fresh fish with respect to the marketed products in all the European markets. The supplies of fish products are constantly guaranteed regardless of the quantities caught at the diverse marine areas that are liable to weather conditions and to the effects of provisional fishing bans (periods of time during which, in the different areas, it is forbidden to catch fish in order to avoid the impoverishing of the marine resources). Previously situated in the historic structure of Via Sammartini, close to the Central Railway Station of Milan, in 2000 the Market was transferred to the present pavilion – complying with EU standards – at Via Lombroso, 53, which features also special sheltered areas thus allowing operators and purchasers with the handling of products along covered courses for reasons of hygiene. As a guarantee in the customers’ respect, besides the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) self-monitoring system adopted by the companies at the respective sales points, SO.GE.M.I. applies a Self-monitoring System in conformity with HACCP regulations, as well as a Sampling System in accordance with the Veterinary Services. The Company assists Market operators in the drafting of their Self-Monitoring Manuals, even by means of the organization of training meetings for the operators themselves and for the purchasers of the Market (Provisions, Traceability, Dietary safety, correct labelling and business papers). Other services available inside the Market area are: a Bank, Coffee bars, Veterinary Services, local Police, an ice-producing firm. The market is open for the public on Saturdays from 09.30am to 11.30am |
